Trip to National Research Centre on Camel Bikaner

My husband and I had gone to Bikaner for our wedding anniversary and were really looking forward to visiting the National Research Centre on Camel as it is the only institute India and truly one of a kind. We stayed in Narendra Bhawan as it is a hotel near the National Research Centre on Camel (hardly about 10km from NRCC). We also chose this hotel as we wanted to ensure that our first anniversary is celebrated in grandeur, and this hotel is engraved in luxury. After weeks of research, we finally decided on this hotel as it is one of the best heritage hotels in Bikaner.

Care is given by the Hotel Staff

We were taken to NRCC from the hotel which hardly took about half an hour. We paid an entrance fee of Rs.30 each, and we surprised by the nominal entrance charge. The hotel staff had already advised us on wearing full clothing, carrying sunglasses, hats and applying sunscreen to protect ourselves from the desert sun. This was crucial since the hotel staff was taking us to NRCC around 3pm as, during this time, a herd of about 400 camels can be seen in groups. Also, the hotel took us to the center on Tuesday as NRCC in Bikaner gets crowded during weekends. And yes, we experienced this magnificent sight of 400 camels!

Camels everywhere!

We had a look at the museum which is situated at the entrance of NRCC. There we got to know a lot the history of this place and about camels. The scientists in the center experiment on different breeds of camels and the guide told us that the center was established to promote research and development on camels. NRCC researches nutrition, genetics, physiology, reproduction, and health of the camels. This research also has an immense impact on the farmers in the state who can adopt better agricultural practices. The center has separate areas for male, female, and baby camels. The calves were super cute and came to the fence to greet us. Later, we went for a camel ride which just costs Rs.50, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The staff is amiable in NRCC was were approachable. I can easily vote NRCC as the best tourist place of Bikaner!

Belly calls!

The center also has a camel milk parlor for the tourists apart from the souvenir shop. Here we tried the camel milk lassi and kulfi, which were just amazing. These two are very popular along with camel milk coffee and cream. Then we went to the souvenir shops which sells different decorative items such as keychains, purses, bags, shawl, and artwork. I bought key chains made of camel tooth for my family and my in-laws.

We then visited nearby attractions including Junagarh Fort, Ganga Government museum, Karni Mata Temple, and Prachina Museum. We were back in our hotel at the end of the day and were welcomed back by the warm staff of Narendra Bhawan. If we ever revisit Bikaner, we will definitely come back to this hotel, which is definitely one of the best luxury hotels in Bikaner.
